AI Missions (DZMS)

All Missions have been updated on 12/31/2018.

The Dead Return runs a heavily modified version of DZMS (DayZ Mission System – thanks Vampire). Changes were needed due to internal DayZ Mod code changes but I’ve also added and changed missions, loot and AI.

DZMS runs 2 missions simultaneously – Major and Minor. Some missions spawn randomly on the map, but some show up at Gas Stations, Helipads and Factories. There is even one that randomly spawns an entire base!

I’m constantly working on missions that spawn in cities since they are more challenging that a bunch of AI sitting in a field.

The mission AI are great shots and will flank and follow you. I’ve seen them move 500 meters or more from a mission. The best strategy is to team up, find cover, shoot and move frequently.

Major Missions (Red Circle on map)

  1. Bandit Outpost – 28 AI (7 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: @ 7 dynamically spawned camps on the map
    • LOOT: 2 crates with weapons
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 large vehicle w/weapons. 1 helicopter w/weapons
  2. Bandit Camp – 32 AI (8 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: @ random locations
    • LOOT: 3 crates with medical, food/drink, weapons
    • 1 small vehicle. 1 trail vehicle
  3. Evacuation Helicopter – 48 AI (12 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS:  Apartment buildings, factories, construction sites or large natural gas tanks
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 Helicopter
  4. Helicopter Landing– 48 AI (12 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random location
    • LOOT: 2 crates with weapons
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 Helicopter
  5. Refuel Convoy – 48 AI (6 Units x 8)
    • SPAWNS: @ any gas station across the map
    • VEHICLE(S):2 humvees w/weapons. 2 Urals w/weapons + supplies
  6. Repair Depot – 40 AI (5 Units x 8)
    • SPAWNS: random location
    • LOOT: 2 crates with parts/tools
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 Large Vehicle
  7. Supply Camp – 40 AI (10 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: 1 Small Vehicle
    • LOOT: 1 Large Vehicle
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 Weapons Crate
    • LOOT: 4 crates with weapons, food/drink/construction/parts/med, food/drink, fuel
  8. Supply Truck – 32 AI (8 Units x 4)

  1. Bandit Squad – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)

  2. Cargo Drop – 28 AI (4 Units x 4) + 12 Paratroopers)
    • SPAWNS: random
    • VEHICLES(S) 4 crates weapons, weapons, food , medical
  3. Helicopter Attack – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random
    • LOOT: 2 crates weapons, weapons
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 heli
  4. Humvee Attack – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random
    • LOOT 2 crates weapons, weapons
    • VEHICLE(S): 1 humvee
  5. Looters – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)

  8. Special Ops Landing  – 20 AI (5 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random locations on the coast
    • LOOT: 1 crate SO weapons, supplies
    • VEHICLE(S): 2 PBX
    • 2 Weapons Crates
  9. Stash House – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random
    • LOOT: 2 crates medical, weapons
    • VEHICLE(S): 2 suv/van/ambulance/lada/green
  10. Supply Drop – 16 AI (4 Units x 4)
    • SPAWNS: random
    • VEHICLE(S) 1 small/gun/humvee

AI Difficulty

There are 4 difficulty levels for the AI squads. Each of these levels has a setting for aimingAccuracy, aimingShake, aimingSpeed, endurance, spotDistance, spotTime, courage, reloadSpeed and commanding. I don’t know exactly what these are, but I’m sure if you are familiar with Arma2 squad variables, then it all makes sense.

AI Weapons

There are 4 sets of weapons that AI be randomly assigned. They will have at least 4 belts or clips of the appropriate ammo in their inventory.

Notes:

  1. The AI are all considered “bandits” and are worth 25 humanity points per kill.
  2. The number of AI, their difficulty settings and weapons are related to the value of the vehicles and/or loot.
  3. You can loot the AI bodies, except for NVGs.
  4. There is a 25% chance the AI will lose their gear on death.
  5. You cannot loot AI that have been run over by a vehicle.
  6.  The AI may roam far or may be laying on the ground, so keep looking.
  7. Vehicles captured at missions are temporary and will disappear at the next restart.
  8. Vehicles captured at missions cannot be repaired, but they can be salvaged for parts.
  9. All AI must be cleared/killed and you need to be within 25m of center for a mission to be complete and a new one to spawn.
  10. Vehicles and crates at missions stay locked until all AI are cleared. You will not get the option to enter nor find any inventory.
